Re: Migrating

Vinay BY has nailed it with the documentation.

A couple of additional recommendations.

First read the documentation.  No tl;dr here -- read it and follow it.

Second, you read the documentation, right?  If so, you have already backed up everything you need to.  Didn't read the docs?  Go back and read them.  Backups are your friend when doing migrations.

Third, migrate the database before you do any upgrades.  Why?  There are lots of new features and tools from 10.0 to 11.0 that will require database changes.  If you migrate the database first you will not only get the advantage of a faster DB server but you will always have a way to fail back to the old DB server if the application upgrade fails miserably.

Migrating between hardware is actually a lot easier than it looks.  The hardest part is maintaining IP addressing (if you aren't using DNS names) for your SNMP configurations.  Take your time and plan it out, ask questions in the forums if you aren't sure of a particular step and backup up your data.

If the worst happens, Solarwinds support are pros all around and can help you through even the stickiest situations -- provided you backed up your data.
