Disagree, you wont loose hardware visibility when polling via vCenter, you can even monitor it even in ICMP polling method.And, if you do both, you'll end up having orphaned ESX's on virtualization...

In the web console, go to Settings > Polling Engines. It should display the SAM polling rate for each of the polling engines.

Yeah, I can only get to SAM setting in prod. I see it in test but we only have 1 polling engine there, but here is what we have for test.

You may want to have the application owner check that - just to rule out any polling engine overloads (although I very much doubt it in this case)

Since the alerting sends out on distinct elements, there's not a way to get an alert to send only 1 email if 50 systems go down as opposed to one email per system.  That's just the nature of node down...
